Pot-Limit Omaha Strategy – Must Reads

If you are new to PLO, these are the best PLO resources I have found and they are listed in the order I would recommend reading them.

Pot-Limit Omaha Poker – The Big Play Strategy by Jeff Hwang

An absolute must-read foundational book for any PLO player. Jeff is the Dan Harrington of PLO and this book has changed the way people view the game much the same way as Dan’s book changed NL Hold’em.

PLO from Scratch – A free, online PLO beginner series that is very comprehensive.

Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha by Rolf Slotboom

Rolf’s strategy is very different from Jeff’s but nonetheless can be very profitable. His strategy revolves around playing with a short stack. While not my preferred style, it is good to know how to combat as you will come across many players who use this approach.

Advanced Pot Limit Omaha Volume 1: Small Ball and Short-Handed Play by Jeff Hwang

A good follow-up to his first book, this explains how to change your approach when there are less players in the game. You’ll find this occurs often in card rooms since PLO games aren’t yet as popular as NL Hold’em.

Pot-Limit Omaha Poker – The Big Play Strategy by Jeff Hwang

Yes, it’s listed twice and I would read this again now as a refresher on fundamentals. It’s hard to absorb everything the first time around and this a great re-read after a few months.

Advanced Pot-Limit Omaha Poker Volume 2: LAG Play by Jeff Hwang

More gold from Jeff about short-handed and aggressive (LAG) play strategies.

Advanced Pot-Limit Omaha Poker Volume 3: The Short-Handed Workbook by Jeff Hwang

A book of sample hands with review and analysis of each one.

Pot-Limit Omaha Tools

ProPokerTools Omaha Hand Simulator
Once you start playing PLO this tool can be a great resource to review your hands and determine your actual equity. You’ll likely be surprised at how many times you thought you were way ahead in PLO and are really only a slight favorite.
